What a major announcement! Of all the people to support lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 I would never have thought that the college presidents from the big universities (Duke, Dartmouth, Ohio State, Syracuse, Tufts, Colgate, etc) would be the leaders of it. But, it is smart since it will relieve some of the university liability of constantly trying to stop underage drinking...which is probably impossible. My gut feel says it will never pass but it will be fun to watch them try.
It just seems right that if you are old enough to defend your country in war that you should be old enough to legally drink, right? The only problem is working through the social impacts of the change.
But, on the bright side, you could give Papa Bert Sneaky Drinking gifts as high school graduation presents in addition to college graduation presents ;)

Budweiser needs to stop messing with my emotions! In one year they switch NASCAR sponsorships from my favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr, to Kasey Kahne (who looks like he is barely old enough to drive, never mind drink). Then, the unspeakable: they sell the great American icon, Anheuser-Busch, to InBev, a Belgium-based brewer of popular beers such as Stella Artois. I'm speechless...
I consider myself one of the few remaining committed drinkers of "Bud Heavy"...I like the crisp thirst quenching taste which is as pure America as Apple Pie and Baseball.
A an entrepreneur, I have to pay some respect to the creation of such a world power (50% of the beer market is controlled by Anheuser-Busch) and the $52B price tag created significant shareholder value...not to mention immense family wealth for the heirs of the throne. The real question is whether Adolphus Busch and Eberhard Anheuser would have wanted their American company (founded in 1860) to be sold to Europeans after such a glorious 148 year run to the top...we will never know.
I am not yet sure what I will do with my bud hats, koozies, shirts, flags, Sippin' Seat, or the 3.5 cases I have in my beer fridge...but rest assured that the marketing power of bud has lost it's power with me. Well, now that I think of it, I will definitely be drinking my current stash and I will toast each one to Adolphus and Eberhard...real men of genius.
I hate goodbyes, but I feel like this closes a chapter in American history. I would like to pay my respects by reciting an old Budweiser beer label:
This is the famous Budweiser beer brewed especially for our own trade according to our own original process of choicest hops, rice, and best barley malt. It will keep in any climate and is backed by our reputation. Take notice that all packages bear our trademark.
Cheers!

Now that spring is approaching and the weather is starting to improve I have returned to an old favorite drink, the Margarita. This year I have landed on a simple recipe that has become quite popular among my friends:
Tequila (2 shots) Triple Sec (1 shot) Orange/Pineapple Juice (1-2 shots) Margarita Mix (2-3 shots) Lime Juice (splash)
I prefer my Margaritas shaken and on the rocks. And, because of my sweet tooth, I prefer a sugar rim to a salt rim (but both are great).
This past weekend, my friends and I enjoyed 2 Papa Bert Sippin' Seats filled with my Famous Papa Bert Margaritas at a local college spring exhibition football game...perfect for summer time drinking!
I look forward to hearing about your adventures with Papa Bert's Sneaky Drinking Products.
Enjoy!
Bert
